On February 2–3, 2026, the PhD Retreat of the ExPBio program took place at the University Centre Telč, offering a unique opportunity for scientific exchange, discussions, and professional development. The event brought together PhD students of the ExPBio program, their supervisors, and members of the Doctoral Board, creating a supportive and inspiring environment for all participants. The program is guaranteed by Assoc. Prof. Mgr. Petra Procházková Schrumpfová, Ph.D., and its aim is to promote excellence in plant research and foster new talent in the field of experimental plant biology.
The retreat was full of expert discussions, presentations, and experience sharing. PhD students had the opportunity to present their research, receive constructive feedback, and discuss their projects with colleagues, experienced researchers, and members of the Doctoral Board. However, it was not just an academic exchange – the retreat brought together people who share a common interest in understanding plants, their development, physiology, genomes, and interactions with the environment, fostering the emergence of new ideas and inspiring projects.
We are proud that Labdeers sponsored this significant event. Our student, Aparna Sreeprakash, a specialist in genomics and proteomics, attended as a guest and delivered a presentation, contributing to the rich scientific program. All the PhD students performed excellently, and we are confident that they will become leading experts in plant biology in the future.
This retreat was the first in a series of meetings focused on experimental plant biology, and its success demonstrates the growing interest in this rapidly developing field. We highly appreciate the excellent organization and the tremendous effort behind the creation of this new research program for young scientists. We wish Petra Procházková Schrumpfová and the ExpBio program many talented and motivated students who will help shape the future of plant research.
